Media Learning
It is life itself that educates. – Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, 1826, from Swan Song
As an amatuer film maker, one of my current goals is to utilize the media as a means for learning. This has come both in the form of videos that I create as a means to share information and also in the form of students utilizing the tools of film making as a means for their own learning, expression and development. To see some student-made example videos, check out this project or this one in the Instructional Design section of this portfolio.
Influenced by ideas such as Benjamin Franklin's Junto, I view this medium as an opportunity for the learning experience to become more non-formal. It provides an opportunity for learners and educators to connect with content in a deeper way. This deeper connection lends itself to a more humanistic approach. This relates to an influence from the work of Johann Pestalozzi.

Additionally, I have begun to create and implement web-based learning into my classroom. By developing websites for classes, resource sharing and even as a means for disseminating information in educational presentations, I can help to create a more meaningful, interactive and enjoyable learning experience.
